Hole-in-the-Rock

‍The Hole-in-the-Rock formation is a small hill in Papago Park that has openings that eroded in the bare red arkosic conglomerate sandstone. It is thought that the ancient Hohokam people used Hole-in-the-Rock to track equinoxes and solstices by recording sunlight that would shine through the hole in the upper part of this formation. The Hole-in-the-rock formation has become a popular attraction and a must-see for anyone who visits Papago Park. While inside this rock formation’s “chamber” visitors get to enjoy a great view of the city of Phoenix.
